“In the summer of 1977, the countryside near our new log home on Cold Lake First Nations was sensuously beautiful! Pink wild Alberta roses everywhere, filling the fresh morning air with nature’s sweet-smelling perfume. The background of picturesque green trees, notably spruce, and wild grasses added to the striking presentation. A wonderful memory to this day.”

“This was done in Banff, Alberta, while attending a few weeks semester, to paint in a work studio. I loved every minute of creating hundreds of works in weeks. While in Banff, I often observed a red-eyed bird on the way to my studio at the college. It was surprising, most birds that I have noticed simply love beauty and their ability to show their own inspired me. The red colour around the eye reminded me of the rock ptarmigan bird which also have red around their eyes. As an artist, I can only hope that people can one day see it as I do, as beauty coming through the eyes of the ptarmigan bird.” – Alex Janvier (2020).

“Buffalo carrier is a stone coloured replica of a buffalo that was in Oleksyk’s farm. Although, it was accidentally ploughed to the surface and damaged, one could still see the remaining image of a buffalo. Families used to carry small amulets like these, as protectors for the family.”

“The landlord is really what every native in Canada is. Not the people who come from other countries. The Indian is the landlord of Canada. A landlord is born on their own homelands and will forever remain a Landlord.” – Alex Janvier (2020)
